After 1953, my love for shophouses only grew. Despite the tendency to have more rectangular and irregular layouts, I realise that shophouses are one of a kind in their own way.
Here comes Atlassia, another freehold that’s been launched at Joo Chiat. With 31 residential and 8 commercial units, this project also screams exclusivity, with its pastel orange coating that gives off the neo-retro vibes
Joo Chiat was a lifestyle area by itself. With gyms, and coworking spots, you’ll find yourself leaving your place to socialise and perhaps even enjoy alittle change of environment as Atlassia doesn’t have these. However, the lack of facilities is something commonly known in smaller boutiques or even shophouse developments. The tiny silver lining however would be the tiny pool on the second floor if you’ll like to have an afternoon dip and get some air. But that said, you’ll be saving a bulk of maintenance fees without having to pay for these. Since we are in the talks of maintenance fees, I’ll need to address that their fees don’t cover parking space as they only have 17 lots available, and they are subjected to charges.
The layout is amazing for Atlassia, as they have a whopping 3.1 metres of ceiling, giving you an ample sense of space. The pale neutral white and beige tone really fits well into the facade, giving a MUJI x SG Shophouse vibes. The aesthetic is clean, and definitely something different, and perhaps abit of Ki’s.
Well within 1km of Atlassia is Haig Girls School and Tanjong Katong Primary school. The MRT however is also quite a distance away and you’ll find yourself relying more on the bus right outside Atlassia.
For this, I’d say that for a sustainable lifestyle you might be better off doing grocery shopping online if you don’t drive. This makes Atlassia more of a “cocoon of sorts” or rather a retreat when you come back to the space. Despite being a lifestyle place, you’ll find yourself having a lot of novelty to choose from, however, the lack of retail mall nearby would be something to take note of.
Looking at the master plan of the district, I would say that there is much to look forward to as the government is looking to have Thomson East Coast line up and serving the public soon. The whole Kallang area would be going through some makeover, as we would be seeing better Community Centres spewing up, even the closest Mountbatten CC would have some changes,
